Manifesta 15 Barcelona Metropolitana invites you to a special event on Wednesday the 4th of June 2025, marking the launch of the publication Arxius Negres / Black Archives by Tania Safura Adam.
For Manifesta 15, Tania Safura Adam presented the newly commissioned archival project Arxius Negres: Fragments of an Anticolonial Metropolis in the former Gustavo Gili publishing house. Here, the Catalan curator, writer and radio-maker showcased an archive that reflects on collective memory and the circulation of knowledge about marginalised populations. These stories from Barcelona's Black communities – constantly silenced yet present for centuries in the metropolis – served as an exercise in historical reclamation. The archive, in its multiple forms, reconstructs history through personal narratives, becoming both testimony and a means to break the silence of the past while fostering new ways of imagining the future.
Join us for a panel discussion marking the publication of Arxius Negres / Black Archives, exploring this Manifesta 15-commissioned work. The conversation will examine the preservation of collective memory and the vital role of Black archives in Catalonia and Spain.
