Mataró, capital of the Maresme region, is a city in constant transformation and one with important cultural heritage and an advantageous geographical situation – on one side it has the sea and on the other it has the coastal range.

Mataró’s Roman origins have left the valuable heritage of the Torre Llauder, a Roman villa from the end of the 1st century BC. Some sections of the city wall built between 1569 and 1600 can still be seen in the centre. The current old city, established in the 17th century and developed during the 18th century, is baroque and can be spotted walking by some streets, squares and buildings that remain from that period. Moreover, colonial architectural influences are also evident, as well as outstanding examples of Catalan Art Nouveau by one of its greatest representatives: the architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, who was from Mataró himself.

Mataró is a well-connected city within the metropolitan area and with the rest of the regions of Catalonia. Its technological and university campus is an example in the region and encourages the growth of the business through innovation.
