Cornellà de Llobregat has a history defined by its proximity to the city of Barcelona, and the presence of the Llobregat River. Its origins date back to the Roman era, traces of which remain in the central neighbourhood between the parish church of Santa Maria and the Castle.

In 1819, an important change took place with the inauguration of the Canal de la Infanta: irrigation was developed, and extraordinary industrialisation took place. With the arrival of the railway in 1854, the textile sector boomed in the municipality which led to an increase in population in the area. Since 1950, the influx of new residents surged, leading to the development of industrialisation and urban planning, albeit in a somewhat disorderly manner.

In the beginning of the 21st century, urban expansion has been rationalised and three large green spaces have been created: the parks Can Mercader, Infanta and Ribera. Today, the economic fabric of Cornellà is diverse and hosts a wide variety of companies linked to logistics and the new economy.
